The Ephemerality of Peace
For over 70 years peace has reigned in Europe. Newer generations assume ‘peace’ as a normal and continuous stage of life. Since the outbreak of the War in Ukraine, our notion of ‘peace’ has changed. The electricity crisis, increasing inflation, military exercises in Taiwan, Iran’s Nuclear Programme, Russian and Iranian military exercises in Venezuela, the Climate Crisis and political instability across the globe suggest a new Era far from ‘peace’ is ahead of us. Can ‘peace’ be achieved by human beings as a permanent state? Or is it within our nature to find a motif to fight for?
‘The Ephemerality of Peace’ land art installation was made through a performance, that shapes the sign of peace with narcissi bulbs. The installation plays ironically with the idea of planting peace with narcissi. The peace was exposed to be deteriorated during the exhibition, as a metaphor to reflect upon the temporality and fragility of peace. The land art installation was showcased at Winter Sculpture Park 2023, at Gallery 32 between February – May 2023.
