The Calling Back series is a continuation of the Selk’nam Footprint installation, presented by Tere Chad in the Neo Norte 1.0 exhibition, Santiago, Chile (2018) and also the Selk’nam Calling installation, showcased in the Neo Norte 2.0 exhibition, London, UK (2019). In Selk’nam Calling visitors can listen to the chanting of the Selk’nam people from back in 1923. The Selk’nam were a tribe from Patagonia who were completely wiped out by genocide. The musical archives were loaned by the Ethnologisches Museum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin Preussischer Kulturbesitz. The series Calling Back presents a number of red telephone boxes, an icon of the British industrial era, with aboriginal peoples from around the world who had been affected by colonisation. The series not only commemorates the centenary of the first red telephone box in England but also reflects upon what has vanished and what remains in our post-colonial Era. 10 prints from the series have been acquired by the Nelimarkka-Foundation Collection.
