Hilando Organismos (Threading Organisms) was a participatory textile art project that invited the community of Nuevo León to observe symbiotic relationships between living creatures. The creative process involved a reading group, a guided visit to the River Santa Catarina, led by Viaje al Microcosmos de Nuevo León (Journey to Nuevo Leon’s Microcosmos), and workshops animated by guest mentors with a background in science or the humanities. Participants used performance and upcycling to reflect upon how the relationships among living creatures can be expressed as parasitic or cooperative. The final performance at the cultural centre or Centro Cultural Plaza Fátima, San Pedro Garza García (Nuevo León, Mexico, June 2024) concluded with a dialogue highlighting the relevance of the observations within socio-political dynamics.

The project facilitated by Tere Chad and Cordelia Rizzo represented a continuation of the duo’s research based on how participatory textile upcycling and performative projects can instigate community reflection upon complex socio-political matters. The duo has facilitated Woven Hug 2.0 (Northern Ireland, 2023), Zurciendo Vacíos (Mending Voids) (Mexico, 2023), Abrazo Entramado 1.0 (Woven Hug 1.0) (Mexico 2022).
